“Facing bird attracting factors outside airports: the Italian approach” by Valter Battistoni
The paper has been presented in the year 2006 in a meeting in Croatia and on 2007 in Canada. It is a presentation dedicated to a foreign audience regarding the innovative regulations of the Italian Navigation Code. Probably the Italian Code is unique in the world to concede so large powers to the National Aviation Authority to remove or prohibit the settlement of wildlife attractive factors (e.g. landfills) in the vicinity of airports.

 “Bird strikes and the Courts: the Genoa Case” by Valter Battistoni
 
The author is the founder of BC & T and former Chair of Bird Strike Committee Italy. This paper was presented in the year 2002 at the joint meeting USA Canada in Sacramento (USA) and at the IBSC conference in Warsaw in 2003. It is the translation of some crucial points and paragraphs of the Genoa Court decision regarding a claim for compensation for bird strike damage. The incident occurred in 1989 at Genoa airport to a Bae 146 operated by the cargo airline TNT.

Five years after the first Italian trial for a damage compensation following a bird strike, the same Court decided over another incident occurred at Genoa airport occurred in 1997. Unfortunately the paper was presented before the sentence was released. However the full text of the sentence is reported in the Italian pages of this site.

“Bird strikes outside the airport boundaries” by Ante Matijaca
 
The author is the Chair of the BSC of Croatia. While the problem of bird strikes may be faced more easily inside airports, where the operator keeps all the area under legal and actual control, things may be different outside them. Property rights and other questions limit the action of the airport operator and of the CAA. The paper was presented in 2003 at the IBSC meeting in Warsaw.
